Dear Sir,
ANIMAL TESTING, this is a matter of great importance which has reached my attention, something that most people lack information on, or those who simply know what happens in the cosmetic labs but simply choose to ignore it because of cowardliness and ignorance. Many people don’t realise but animals are dying so spotty teenage girls can cover their insecurities with chemicals, although their spots are not visible they will never be able to hide the selfishness and guilt they should be feeling and they parade around with a substance on their face which has caused so many animals so much pain. This just shows how modern days society is fueled by vanity and economic balance.
Facts and figures:
1. The Government stopped publishing details of animal testing licences in 1986. It plans to begin publishing anonymous summaries of the licences in the autumn. (This is just another perfect example of ignorance and cowardliness, the government should not condone this kind of abuse, it’s illegal to abuse an animal, so why is it legal to lock them up in cages and force them to test out painful and potentially life threatening experiments for beauty.)
2. Each year, more than 100 million animals—including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds—are killed in U.S. laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. (That means 27,3972 animals die every day, this statistic is only in the U.S think about all the other countries that are still condoning this.)
3.Today, artificial skin or corneas made from human cells can be used to test for skin and eye irritation. Cell cultures from mammals can test whether a substance causes can
cer. Population health studies and sophisticated computer models can also help cosmetics scientists predict individual reactions or toxicity. (This show that there are alternatives for this cruelty, so there are no excuses for companies to carry on with animal testing.)
4. Household products are also tested on animals in Britain. In the Draize Eye Test, irritants are dripped into the eyes of rabbits.]
5. Testing of cosmetics on animals was outlawed in Britain in two phases between 1997-98. (This maybe true, but the uk still stocks animal tested products, and this is just another reason why animal testing is so popular because we are purchasing these products, which is a demand for more, which means more testing for more batches, or colours of this certain cosmetic product.)
6.https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/291350/Guidance_on_the_Operation_of_ASPA.pdf (This is a link to a booklet by The Home Office, called guidence on the operation of the animals.
Here is one of the many pages which states, that to have the rights to harm an animal you need a license to do so, license or no license this act of pain and cruelty is wrong and should not be tolerated, although it is stated that the government banned all kind of animal testing in the uk, if you have a license for it it is ‘ok’ and legal, also its says that Europe is not letting animal tested cosmetic products be sold in the uk, but here i see MAC stores, and Maybaline, Vaseline, Clarines, these are all brands that carry out these heart breaking experiments.
5. When the EU banned cosmetics that were tested on animals in 2013, there was a large sigh of relief from pet-lovers everywhere.
But has it put an end to the practice of mice and rabbits being used for tests to ensure cosmetics are safe for humans?
Not entirely.
Loopholes in the law, as well as many brands' policy of testing outside the EU, mean that many companies that call themselves cruelty-free are actually not.
(Enforcing this law may have improved a small amount of the UK’s problems but it has not improved anything else in other countries, this law needs to be enforced around the whole world, and sir i know you maybe very busy but this is not something i can just go out and do with my friends, i need someone of your power to spread awareness around the world, of how cruel this is and how we should be respecting our animals not treating them like science experiments.
I think the real question is how would you feel, remember the saying, treat others how you like to be treated, or has the whole world forgotten about this saying as they drown in the blood of the animals that they have killed, all in the name of science and the human races selfishness and vanity.
Here are some photos on how the human race has turned out like:
Rabbits get irritants squirted into there eyes every day, think how painful that would be, just getting shampoo in your eyes hurt a lot, but you always have a towel to dry your eyes.
To conclude, i believe that the whole world need to understand that animal testing is foul and cruel. I am aware that this is something that is not going to change overnight but it is something i am willing to spend a large amount of my time on even if i have your help or not, i may only be a 13 year old girl, but everyone has a voice and i’m going to be the voice for the animals, and make sure i am heard, so that animal testing is illegal universally and no more animals have to suffer any more.
Sincerely,
Polly Green
Aged 13 and firmly believes in animal rights.
